The millions of people in Southeast Asia who depend on agriculture are among the hardest hit by the consequences of climate change, which are increasingly devastating and far-reaching. At the same time, these people are also the ones for whom climate change resilience is most essential and critical. This year’s photo contest will highlight the two opposite facets of climate change—vulnerability and resilience.

SEARCA PHOTO CONTEST 2014 will award entries that best capture how vulnerable Southeast Asian agricultural communities are to climate change OR what these communities are doing to respond to the challenges of climate change. We are looking for photographs that emphasize climate change vulnerability and resilience initiatives at the individual, household, and community levels.
Send us your photographs that capture the answers to the following questions:

What does a vulnerable community look like?

What does a climate resilient community look like?

What are the effects of climate change on gricultural communities in Southeast Asia?

What are agricultural communities doing to become more resilient to climate change effects?

Judging consists of two rounds of evaluation. In the first round, 50 photographs will be shortlisted from among all eligible entries based on relevance to the theme and impact.

The shortlisted entries will be qualified for the People’s Choice Award, which will be done through Facebook voting.

In the final judging, judges will collectively select the first, second, and third prize winners from the 50 shortlisted entries based on the following criteria: relevance to the theme (40%), technical quality (30%), and impact (30%).

Winners will be chosen on or about January 15, 2015. Decisions of the judges are final and binding.

Winners will be notified via e-mail. SEARCA has the right to offer the prize to the next winning entry if and only if the winner does not initiate any contact within two weeks after notification.

Winners will be asked to provide their bank information so their cash prizes can be remitted; their certificates of recognition will be sent by mail. The winning photos will also be showcased in the Photo Contest Gallery on the SEARCA website, its Facebook page, and the Center’s LED Board.
